BJs Brewhouse - Casual Family Dining
BJ’s Brewhouse is a great location for casual family dining in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. There are two locations within the Orlando area, one at The Loop and one at the Mall at Millenia. Perhaps not in the main tourist areas, but not too far off the beaten path. The Mall at Millenia is definitely worth a visit during a holiday, and The Loop also has plenty of shopping which would make it worth visiting.
Although this is perhaps not one of the most common chains in the Orlando area, BJ’s has actually been in existence since 1978 as a pizzeria in California. In 1996 the idea to add a brewery was added to the restaurants and they have been serving great food and hand-crafted micro-brewery beer since then. There is a regular selection of their own ales available which include such beers as a light blonde beer, a wheat beer and a pale ale, through to darker and richer beers like a porter and a stout. As well as having their regular beers, there are seasonal beers which are brewed to complement the season.
It is possible to order a sampler set which will allow you to taste a small measure of each different ale, or you can choose your preferred beer and stick to it. You are assured of being able to make a nice choice from a selection of award winning beers.
Despite the name, BJ’s Brewhouse, the really wow factor, in our opinion, isn’t the beer, but the food. The atmosphere in these large eating venues is a relaxed family sports bar, with tables and booths for seating and plenty of large screens on the walls showing a selection of sport channels. Every time we have been to BJ’s we have definitely felt that it is a more local crowd that use it and often there have been large groups like school sports teams or birthday parties being catered for in a large and slightly separate dining area. Although it is an upbeat place to eat, it is definitely not too noisy or too full-on compared to some of the high energy alternatives like you may find at Downtown Disney.
Moving onto the menu, you will be amazed by the selection that you are presented with and deciding what you would like to eat can be quite a challenge. To begin with there are over 20 starters to whet your appetite. For main course you will have to decide between their signature pizzas, which can be either to set selections or create your own; or you could also decide on a salad or a sandwich, or perhaps you would prefer soup and chilli? Still not able to decide, then why not look at the burgers, the giant stuffed potatoes or a pasta dish and if that doesn’t give you enough choices then why not have something from the grill or a there is also a selection of family favourites. This menu is HUGE and there are plenty of choices with different themes able to cater for all tastes in a family group. One word of warning, though, the portion sizes are also huge. We have never managed to get to desserts, although I would imagine them to be of the same quality as the rest of the dishes.
Although this restaurant is busy, we have never had to wait long for a table, the service is good and the food is excellent and well priced … what more could you want? There entire menu available for take out? You’ve got it!
