Up until last year we had not been on the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disney Magic Kingdom, so we were looking forward to it. The ride is located in the Tommorowland part of the park and is a great ride for the whole family. While you queue for the ride you are briefed on your mission, which is to save the universe from the Evil Emperor.

You enter the ride on a spinning flying saucer that spins and turns. It has 2 ray guns onboard and these are what you use to shoot and score points. The ride has a joystick that makes the ride spin and this is great fun for the kids (who always want to use it! ). In the ride is a scoreboard to let you know how you are doing. What I like most about the ride is the fact that it moves very slowly and allows you to take it all in.

The main part of the ride is the ability of each person to score points by hitting the orange discs as they go round. The more things you hit the more points you accumulate. This in itself makes you want to go back on the ride again to see if you can beat your old score. The easier the target the less points they are worth, hit something that is far away or hard to hit and you will score more points for the team. This was quite a hard thing to work out as you can accumulate quite a lot of points by shooting things nearby. If you have a sharp eye you can even hit the Mickey Mouse targets to score extra bonus points!

If you achieve over a certain amount points you will save the Universe from the evil emperor and become one of Buzz Lightyear’s junior space rangers. At the end you have the opportunity to score some big points by spinning the saucer round to shoot the robots left wrist. This alone carries 100, 000 points.

When going on this ride I would advise that you try and get the FASTPASS tickets as this will help you miss the long queues. We did this and went for a drink before we had to come back to go on the ride.

Overall this ride is a great ride for the whole family, no matter what age you are you will enjoy this ride. The best part of it is you will want to go on it again and again to try and beat your old score. When we went on it the younger members of our flying saucer scored the most. And did we know about it when we got off the ride!
