I definitely recommend a visit to DownTown Disney simply to take in the atmosphere, stroll around the shops (and obviously buy if you want to!) and then finish the evening with something to eat. There are plenty of options but here are some we have visited.
If you want a quick snack try CaptainJack’s Restaurant for sandwiches, clam chowder, crab cakes, grouper sandwiches and fantastic coleslaw. You can also enjoy a cocktail here served at the Captain's copper bar, always quick service here, not huge portions so really just a snack. Hours generally 11:30am - 10:30pm.
Also if you are in a hurry, opened in March 2004 is the Earl of Sandwich. Earl of Sandwich is a counter-service restaurant, with both indoor and outdoor seating. A national chain, it offers an assortment of gourmet sandwiches, salads and a bakery selection. All sandwiches are served “to go,” whether you are eating there or not. Each is made fresh after you place your order, so the queue can be a bit lengthy at times.
If you want an evening meal, there is a fabulous replica of a turn-of-the-century riverboat (which was once the Empress Lily) called Fulton's Crab House. This is a seafood restaurant with a menu that changes daily with more than 50 selections of the freshest seasonal seafood flown in. 5 separate dining rooms, all with water side tables and alcoves – seating up to 700! Hours usually 11:30am - 4:00pm and 5:00pm to 11:00pm. Reservations, although not always necessary, are recommended, as the Crab House gets very busy at peak periods.
Just across from Fulton's Crab House is the Portobello Yacht club and offers the most delicious Italian and pizzas. Hours usually 11:30am - 4:00pm and 5:00pm to 11:00pm. Reservations suggested.
One of our favourites is the Rainforest Café. A unique dining experience you dine whilst sitting in the Amazon rainforest. Live birds plus animated gorillas and cheetahs creating an extraordinary atmosphere that the kids loved. You can just sit at the bar and have a drink (check out the bar stools!). You can buy souvenirs here in the shop. Very popular restaurant seating 500. Opens 11:30am and closes 11:00pm or midnight depending on the season.
For that sweet tooth member of the family (I am one) there is Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop. Famous in San Francisco, there is a soda fountain featuring its famous hot fudge sundae. I personally think this is the best Hot Fudge Sundae in Walt Disney World. It gets quiet after 10pm so a good excuse to drop in after you have eaten earlier in the evening and indulge! Shop open 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Soda Fountain open 10:30 a.m. to midnight.
You can have a great evening at DownTown Disney with plenty of dining options.
