This is an annual event (no pun intended) that has taken place at Epcot for the last 13 years. Having visited each time we are in Orlando, this year was no exception.

As Epcot is already one of our favourite parks it just adds to the pleasure when there is a special event on. The festival runs every year between May and June for about 3 weeks.

On entering the park it is worth picking up a daily flyer of all the planned events to make sure you don’t miss anything in particular that you would like to see. If you are mega organised then check out the Disney site in advance of your visit and plan your vacation around the special events you would like to see.

This year’s special events included the “Premiere weekend” when new stamps were issued by the US Post Office to commemorate “The Romance of Disney”.

There was also a “Party in the Garden” weekend where Disney characters hosted their very own garden party’s.

The weekend we chose to visit was “Mothers Day Weekend” and every mother was presented with a flower and photo opportunity.

The Park pulls out all the stops to impress and the Disney topiary is something to behold. With huge displays featuring Disney Romance, the highlight of which was a Mickey & Minnie topiary display just as cross the walkway into Future World.

All around the World Showcase Lagoon there are stalls and stands featuring different aspects to enhance and personalise your own garden. There are displays from all over the world featuring every type of garden conceivable, from water gardens, to butterfly gardens and even a fairy garden courtesy of Tinkerbell.

Adults and children alike were enthralled and delighted by both the usual Epcot attractions and the new displays for the festival.

At the America Gardens Theatre they also had daily concerts, aptly entitled Flower Power and featured many stars from the flower power age of the 60’s and 70’s. We saw a concert by Davy Jones, of The Monkee’s fame and it was great to have a good sing along to oldies that everyone knows.

In the Festival Centre at Innoventions West you could hear talks and see demonstrations by some of America’s most famous gardeners. There were question and answer sessions and wonderful displays of art, many of which were manned by the original artists.

All in all it was a great day out, and can be as educational as it is fun. Definitely worth making a point of visiting if you are in Orlando in May or June next year, we may even see you there.
