Food and Drink in Florida.
After the parks and the sunshine (and maybe the shopping) one of the things that people enjoy most about a Florida holiday is the food.
The restaurants are very reasonable and usually have a large menu that will please all members of the family.
Chains feel reassuring to most holidaymakers and off the top of my head I can come up with Denny's, Red Lobster, Sweet Tomatoes, Golden Corral, Macaroni Grill, Bone Fish Grill, Bob Evans, Ruby Tuesdays, Cheesecake Factory, Perkins and Cracker Barrel.
If you register with their websites before you go, they will often send you discount coupons. Use them, they will accumulate a large saving over the fortnight. There are also booklets of coupons in the shops and restaurants that also contain a range of money saving deals.
When we had small children, the buffet restaurants worked well for us since they can make their own choices. When the children were older they also worked well as they had the bottomless stomachs that teenagers seem to acquire. Choose from Golden Corral or Sweet Tomatoes. A breakfast in Golden Corral before you hit the parks will sustain you through the day. There is also a buffet called Ponderosa; we do not go there anymore if you get my drift!
If you have a 55 or over member in your group then some restaurants will offer you a discount. By the same token, eating dinner early can sometimes throw up a special as well. Do not be afraid to ask for a doggy bag, the portions are much too large for most of us and it is a request they are well used to.
Now, we move on to self catering. This will be easy if you are staying in a well equipped vacation rental home. Publix and Walmart all have easy food to take home. Cooked pork and chicken and lots of salads. In some cases you can pick up a whole meal. You will almost certainly have a plethora of take away Chinese and pizza leaflets in your home that you can order in. Pizza by the pool - what could be nicer. If I am cooking from scratch I always cook double and plate up meals for the following day. Top Tip:- plate them up before you dish up the current meal. If your family are anything like mine they scoff the lot. For dessert, think no further than ice cream. Premium ice cream is very reasonable in Florida and what more could you want than some fresh fruit and cookies and cream ice cream?
