If anyone is staying on H27 near the 192 exit why not try ‘Homer’s Real Pit BBQ’ for a take out? Or for those from Europe a ‘take away’!

Homers Real Pit BBQ is situated on H27 just north of the 192 towards Clermont. From the front has a large parking area and the logo on the front is the top half of a large friendly, smiling pig in dungarees. Until this year this the location had not looked too great – indeed we’d often wondered as we drove north on H27 if it was even open for business! Around the Spring of this year it went through a re-vamp and is looking much brighter and fresher offers a tasty menu and is definitely open for business. Our American neighbours recommended we try Homer’s saying their ribs were ‘real tasty’ and made a change from regular take outs!

The menu is quite extensive with appetizers including loaded potato skins, buffalo chicken wings to soup of the day. Between 11am – 3pm they do lunch plates, for example, pork and beef sliced, ribs, turkey, fish and salads. These all come with a choice of two sides.

Their dinner plates offer more dishes. In addition to the above there are a variety of ribs, various steaks and more fish on offer. These are available from 11am – 9.30pm.

Side dishes include things like barbeque beans, green beans coleslaw, onion rings, salads but you can be a bit more exciting by trying sweet potato, and things like fried okra.

If you’ve some who prefer more traditional quick meals there are burgers, grilled or fried chicken and Philly cheese steak and they do offer children’s meals with fries – junior ribs, pulled pork, chicken tenders, and hot dogs for example.

We tried ‘Homer’s Family Feast. For $29.95 (plus tax) we had pulled pork, sliced beef, chickens, ribs, barbeque beans, fries and garlic bread…. Enough for four adults, it blew us out and gave us enough to put in sandwiches the next day!

You can eat in at Homer’s – it reminded us of an old fashioned basic diner, or a café in England. It’s not licensed with basic seating and service but at an honest price.

However, we thought it came into its own on the way back from a busy day shopping or at the parks. When the last thing you feel like doing is cooking for everyone – or buying a take out from a run of the meal ‘chain’. Homers offers a great alternative. Our meals took around 15 – 20 minutes for our order to be cooked but it saved a lot of effort doing our own meal when we were feeling tired.
