Magic Kingdom – Frontier Land
This land has two of the best rides in Magic Kingdom with the third being Space Mountain in Tomorrow Land. These are Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Splash Mountain used to be our favorite ride in Frontier land but has we have got braver with roller coasters our new favorite within Magic Kingdom has to be the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Both rides are very popular and are major attractions within the Park. We try and ride these attractions during the parades to avoid the queues. We also take advantage of the Disney Fast Pass system. Both rides have a height restriction of 40 inches.
Splash Mountain is based on the Disney Film “Songs of the South” and features Brer Fox and Brer Bear’s attempt to catch the wily Brer Rabbit, you gently wind your way round caves and swamps with other characters from the film there are a few minor drops before you head for the Brer Rabbit’s Laughing Place which is the major drop you see as you approach the attraction, as you drop there are cameras in place to catch the laughter on anybodies face, or the sheer terror on our faces the first time we rode it. Needless to say we went straight back round to ride again.
A word of warning it’s not only the front row that gets soak.
The other great ride in Frontier land is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the first time we went to Magic Kingdom we refused to ride it as it looked too fast. But now as we got braver this ride is such good fun and a great way to start if you daunted by Roller Coasters.
The ride is set during the gold rush days, there are numerous audio-animatronics, and the usual Disney attention to details and you may have to ride a couple of times just to take it all in. The ride is just under 4 minutes, and the best to place is the rear as you will be thrown about more.
The rides are next to each other so its best to Fast Pass one ride will queuing to ride the other.
Also within Frontier there are the attractions Country Bear Jamboree and the Raft to Tom Sawyer Island, which is were we enjoy exploring the caves which are lovely and cool and gives you a chance to recharge the batteries before we begin the assault on the rest of the park. The Rafts stop going to the Island around dusk.
The places to eat are Pecos Bill café which serves salads, sandwiches and burgers. Frontier land Fries which serves McDonalds fries and drinks, and the Turkey Leg Cart which serves those wonderfully massive smoked Turkey legs.
