Just under four hours drive South of Orlando, on the Gulf of Mexico coast is the beautiful and cosmopolitan town of Naples. Famous for its shopping, restaurants, golf courses and gorgeous miles of white sandy beaches, Naples is definitely worth a visit.

The shops on Third Street are regarded as equal to any in Beverly Hills and those on Fifth Avenue are definitely worth a look at. The evenings in these two streets are very special indeed, they just seem to come alive and it is the only place to be seen at night. Some of Naples best restaurants can be found here, but you will need to make a reservation in high season. Campielo’s and Tommy Bahamas on Third Street are a must do, even if its only for a quick drink. A little further down is McCabes Irish Bar, lovely food with entertainment and, of course let’s not forget, Guiness.

On Third Street try parking at the back of Tommy Bahamas Restaurant and walking down to the famous Naples Pier. If your lucky you may even see turtles nesting on the beach. Naples Pier is great at any time of the day but it’s a lovely place to watch those wonderful Gulf coast sunsets. Why not take a stroll after dining in one of the fabulous restaurants?

Another must do is the Caribbean Zoo. Not big by normal standards but very enjoyable, especially the boat ride to Monkey Island. The “Meet the Keeper” experience at the tiger pen is excellent and not to be missed. You’ll probably only need half a day here, but you can always pop over to the Coastlands Shopping Mall afterwards, it’s just across the road from the Zoo.

The Everglades are very close to Naples, you can reach them in just under an hour by car. You can hire boats, take an airboat ride, go sea fishing or even take a day trip to Key West by boat. We experienced the airboat tour with “Speedy Johnsons”, it lasted for an hour and was very enjoyable. We saw four alligators in their natural habitat and the commentary was very informative.

Another enjoyable way to see Naples is to take the Sunset Cruise from Tin City. It leaves about an hour before sunset and last for an hour and a half. Commentary on board is provided and you will see lots of wildlife, sometimes even dolphins. Sail pass houses that cost up to $20 million. We would recommend dining at Joe’s Crab Shack afterwards. This is a large, very reasonably priced restaurant that overlooks the Everglades, just across the road from Tin City.

These are just a few of the enjoyable things you can do in Naples. Why not pay Naples a visit next time you are in Florida and see for yourself what a great place it is.
