New to villa holidays…………what should I pack? - Orlando / Florida Guide

If you are new to villa holidays and moreover new to Florida villa holidays you may be wondering what you need to pack!

The golden rule is to travel light on the outward journey!

The main reason for this is to be able to take advantage of the fabulous shopping opportunities in Florida! For Brits the exchange rate means excellent value (at the time of writing this, the exchange rate is nudging up to $2 to £1). If you aren’t careful your luggage will be overweight for the journey home!

Consider taking a light holdall in your suitcase for those extra purchases!

Clothes and shoes are such good value that it is worth leaving most of yours at home and stocking up early in the holiday! T shirts, shorts, jeans, trainers are all so much cheaper in Florida. Do remember though that there are customs restrictions when returning to the UK and it would be prudent to check the amount of goods that can be brought back without duty being payable. The current limit at the time of writing this is £145 per person.

Staying in a villa means that you will have washing and drying facilities and whilst you don’t want to spend your holiday doing the family washing it is very easy to throw washing in to the machine and pop it into the large tumble drier. This does mean that you can limit the amount of clothes you bring with you.

If you are staying in a villa, particularly one advertised on one of the Orlando Villas sites, you will be staying in a well equipped home which will have many of the things you would normally want to take with you. If in doubt, then ask the villa owner – as you don’t want to use your valuable luggage allowance taking something that is already provided!

Typically the following items will be provided:

• Bed linen

• Cot bedding for your baby

• Towels

• Pool/beach towels

• Tea towels for the kitchen

• Hair driers

• Toilet rolls

• Soap

• DVDs, CDs and Playstation games (check with the owner)

Remember that if you are travelling from the UK DVDs and Playstation games will most likely not be compatible so there is no point in bringing your own.

Other items that may be provided, but do check with the owner, are hair appliances such as straighteners, toiletries, tea, coffee, bin liners, dishwasher and washing powder etc. Of course all of these items can be purchased locally should you need them!

Enjoy your holiday!
