Here is something you may not have thought about adding to your must do list when you visit Florida over the festive season. It is not just the theme parks and shopping malls which get into the festive spirit and decorates everything in sight so if you are staying in a privately owned villa you may be lucky enough to have an owner who decorates their house inside and out for the Xmas period. If not no worries simply jump in your car and head off around the residential and STR sub divisions and you will see some fantastic efforts from simple to simply over the top!
A lot of folks including ourselves, when we can, start the preparations weeks in advance and plan meticulously about what is going where. We have numerous inflatable’s and every sort of decoration you could imagine to hang off the house and garden including icicle lights, huge baubles, huge Candy Canes, Snowmen, sleighs, trains , wreaths, bells and lots more besides. The good taste bug goes out of the window as communities and homes compete with each other to be the best, some communities even have a prize for the best kitted out house.
There are some great sights to be seen and especially in Davenport there are some crazy houses, one must have about 200 things in the yard. Even the local church gets into the act. The funniest thing I have seen decorated was an old pick up truck lying by the road which someone had kitted out like a Xmas tree!
If you decide you do want to decorate the inside of your vacation villa or if you are not fortunate enough to be staying in one you can still decorate your accommodation with lots of fun Xmas objects as the big stores like Wal*Mart and Target have literally thousands, no millions of things on offer and if you are there a couple of days after Xmas you can maybe get a few different things to take back with you in the famous post Xmas sales.
Even the most Bah Humbug of characters won’t fail to be impressed with some of the displays out there and if they are make sure you tell me and I shall send the ghost of Xmas past to visit them and coach them into the Xmas spirit!Page added on: 06 August 2007
