Old Town at Kissimmee Orlando is a fun place and well worth a visit on your vacation trip, with free parking and free admission too. You will find it off the 192 and it is very distinctive from a long way off by the two towering supports of the ride “Slingshot” which (if you are brave enough to ride on it) will catapult you over 360 feet into the air! It is much too scary for me, but there are plenty of other less extreme rides to keep you occupied, and plenty of fun for all ages. There is a “kiddie” area, with merry go round, frog, hopper, mini roller coaster and spinning tea cups. The children seemed to be having fun, and squeals of delight were to be heard!
If you like shopping you can browse the speciality shops, one of my favourites is the black market minerals, which sells all sorts of stones, pearls and items to make your own jewellery. There is also a pearl factory and a gold jewellery shop. You could find something different in the old fashioned collectible shops, especially if you are a pin collector. There are plenty of gift shops, such as the Old Town General Store and a lovely Christmas shop. There is even a Tattoo Studio should the mood take you to add a picture of Mickey Mouse to your forearm, or Tinkerbell to your shoulder! There are some good places to buy clothes, a boutique, a leather shop and surf shop to name but a few. I can never visit Old Town without some cash leaving my pocket! It is a great place for the children to spend their pocket money.
On Friday and Saturday nights there are special interest/classic car cruises, and it’s fascinating to look at all the vehicles cruising around the streets. The cars are so well looked after it is always a fascinating spectacle of amazing vehicles, all lovingly cared for and cherished! There are some intricate paint jobs on some of the cars, they must have taken ages to do. If you like motor bikes they have a bike night every Thursday, where bikes bring their bikes to show them off! Live music from 7. 30 every night adds to the buzzing atmosphere.
If you are feeling hungry there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat, such as burgers or pizza, or to sit down for a meal at the Spring Roll Chinese Restaurant. If the mood takes you, you could have a nice cool drink at the Blue Max Tavern. Later, when the little ones are tucked up in bed, you could visit the night club.
I good place to visit during the day with the family, and a buzzing night life later.Page added on: 18 June 2007
