The Orlando Driving Experience - Orlando / Florida Guide

Florida Guide > Travelling

We have been travelling to Florida for a number of years now but I still remember the first time I drove in Orlando in a convertible. It was March and I had the top down, the warm breeze whipped at my hair and I can honestly say I felt like a film star. That may sound a bit over the top but I can still feel that exhilaration now as I remember back.

We usually go now as a family of five and hire a seven seater minivan. This is more for the luggage space but believe me having three rows of seats is a godsend when you have warring children. As I said before I have a soft spot for the convertible. For smaller groups and couples it could add that extra something special that makes a great holiday perfect.

For a first time driver I can understand if you feel a bit nervous about driving an automatic on the “wrong” side of the road, but believe me you will soon get the hang of it. Just take it easy and go with the flow. For those of you that are first time drivers in Orlando I can assure you that it won’t be long before driving is a pleasure.

I find it quite a relaxing affair, for me it’s a time to soak in the atmosphere and it’s a major part of my holiday. There are a number of differences in the rules for driving between Britain and the US and I would definitely advise anyone to make sure they understand what’s expected of them before they travel. Satellite Navigation systems are a wonderful invention and perfectly suited to an Orlando holiday, it’s almost impossible to get lost.

My other major piece of advice for first time drivers and in fact any driver that gets into a car that’s new to them is to know where all the indicators, lights etc are before you leave the airport. Take a look at the petrol cap and know how to open it. If you do get a convertible be sure of how to put the roof both up and down. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, as now is the time to ask and prepare your self, not when you are half way to your Villa and you turn what you think is your indicator to turn right and your windscreen wipers swish wildly in front of you.

Whichever car you decide on I thoroughly recommend hiring from this site http://www. uscarhire. co. uk? villa=1442. We have used them ourselves for over four years and we have always had great service and competitive prices. The choice of cars is amazing and there is something for every party size and pocket, from economy 2 door to 15 seat minivan and Hummer to Harley Davidson

Happy driving
