On our first shopping trip to Festival Bay was a bit of an eye opener as we turned into the car park we saw a huge sign for Outdoor World, outside which stood what we in the UK would call speed boats and cruisers.
We made our way into Festival Bay and quickly came across the entrance to this store called Outdoor World and once through the entrance we were greeted by what I can only describe as the biggest ever store full of all outdoor equipment
The range of fishing rods was simply huge and not being a fisherman the choice seemed immense, I overheard a sales person saying to a prospective customer “why not try it in out tank”
I turned around to find a simply huge indoor fish tank standing about 8 feet tall full of some serious size fish, the sales person and the customer approached the tank and stood on an area close to the waters edge were they proceeded to lightly cast the fishing line into the e water testing had the rod felt in the customers hand, well I have seen some things but this was a first for me
We ventured further into the store and came across the camping and outdoor gear area, now this is an area of goods I know something about being a keen camper and outdoor person, there was everything from the good old MSR firefly stove, sleeping mat’s, sleeping bags up to tents. I have been in a lot of camping shops in the UK but the sheer range of items available was much more than I had ever seen anywhere in the UK also they had a lot of unique items I had not seen here at home
Its obvious that the Americans love there barbeques as there were a number of small portable camping barbeques, also there were lots of electrical devices to help protect you from mosquitoes and the like
Of course this is the USA and the items were the same price in dollars as they were in pounds at home in Britain and so there were many bargains to be had, especially of the brands which you see regularly in Britain
Next it was onto the outdoor clothing brands and there was a lot of North Face and Columbus clothing and again the clothing was reasonably priced but looking further round the store there appeared to be a much larger area of outdoor clothing just round the corner which was situated next to a big counter selling some very surprising items….
