Perkins - Take home a sweet treat.
Sometimes you just want something a little sweet to take back to your vacation home and sometimes you eat out and are too stuffed for dessert. In either of those cases we have just discovered what a delight (and temptation) the take away bakery section of a Perkins is. So let me tempt you with some delectable sweet treats they have on offer: The huge muffins are big enough for 2 to share (or not, if your teenagers are like mine were) and come in Banana and Nut, Apple and Cinammon, Blueberry and a special of the day. The pies are famous and include French Silk, Lemon Meringue, Peanut Butter and Caramel Apple. There also is a no sugar added Wild berry Pie.
Where the pies have cream included, it is always proper fresh cream (they must get through gallons! ) Fancy a cookie? fancy a chocolate chip cookie? of course you do. Then again, there are also sugar cookies on offer or my particular favourite, oatmeal and raisin. Gorgeously chewy and they have fruit in them so they are healthy, right? Chocolate and Walnut Brownies go down well in our house and for something plainer, a Cinammon Bun or a Sticky Bun. Nice to stash away for your breakfast. Too plain to be considered dessert.
Now, I do not want to be a spoilsport but I did check out the calorie count on a couple of items.
One of their muffins clocked up 700 calories (if buttered) The Caramel Apple Pie is 500 calories A Double chocolate chip cookie is 500 calories. You would never guess that the cookie clocks up the same calories as a slice of iced pie, would you?
Now, if you have been to a park you have probably walked several miles so you are allowed the most sinful of treats. Otherwise, we sometimes have a simple salad to start with and then throw in the most decadent dessert or cake we can find. How about their Peanut Butter Pie with real Reeces Pieces? To steal a slogan, naughty but nice!
