POLLO TROPICAL - Orlando / Florida Guide

Florida Guide > Dining

Pollo Tropical is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat. Imagine McDonald or Burger King with a Caribbean and Tropical feel. It leaves normal fast food fare miles and miles behind.

Not many tourists use this fast food chain and it is mainly locals that dine there. I am a fan, the rest of the family can take or leave it preferring the hamburger, French fries and coca cola option of fast food and drink but if you fancy a change and are bored with the normal fast food, give it a go, you just might be surprised.

It is not unusual to not hear Spanish spoken widely. The Caribbean influence is in the whole menu and the staff is attired in loud very bright tropical themed shirts. The place itself is very bright and the odd parrot makes an appearance in the décor! Every order is made up fresh so during busy times you can wait a few moments but this is no different to waiting on fries cooking or the likes in the other fast food chains

My choice is always the same sort of items. I can highly recommend the Chicken Caribbean soup, which has huge lumps of chicken, sweet corn still on the cob, plantains and other exotic veg. It is also very very flavorsome and comes in small or large portions! A recent addition to the soup menu is a Shrimp soup which is also recommended. For main course I normally choose the chicken Caesar salad or if hungry I have the chicken and ribs combo with a side of Yucca fries and balsamic tomatoes washed down with frozen strawberry or Mango frozen slush….yummy. Pork sandwich is the normal choice of the rest of the family but there are lots of combo style meals and side dishes to choose from with such items as Rice and Beans, Yellow rice, fries, sweet corn, balsamic tomatoes, plantains and a few more choices of a Caribbean nature. There is a food station where you can add various things to your meal including Salsa, raw onion, Tabasco, salt, pepper, vinegar, oil and three different flavors of BBQ sauce including Guava, regular and curry.

The price of an average meal for two is around the $20 mark give or take a couple of dollars depending on what you order, so it is at least worth a visit once to see what you think.
