Choosing the Villa Before going to the websites just decide what is important to you and your family for you to enjoy your holiday to the full. The Flights If you have several choices to make here and you might like to ask the owner of the villa you are renting if they can recommend a good travel agent. Travel agents often have access to tickets earlier than the general public and they can also sometimes find cheaper flights than those that you can find on the internet.
A first consideration is whether you want to fly direct or if you don’t mind changing flights. Some people like to split the journey but for others it is important to get there as quickly as possible and avoid any worries about connecting flights. If you want to travel with a scheduled airline then an indirect flight can save you quite a bit of money. For stays of more than 14 nights and definitely for stays that are not multiples of 7 days you are likely to be looking at a scheduled flight.
If you use a scheduled flight then you will land at Orlando International Airport, which is closer to most of the villas. It is probably only 20 – 30 minutes to your villa from here. The downside is that Orlando International is a very large airport and you end up having to wait for your luggage to arrive twice as it is transported from the terminal to the hub after you have cleared customs.
If you are travelling for 14 nights then a charter flight becomes a real possibility for you and at some times of the year these can offer very reasonable prices. The choice of airline can be difficult though. You need to think about what is important. If you think you can stand anything for 9 hours then just go for the cheapest flight, however, if the flight is a part of your holiday then think about the comfort of the seats and the room provided as well. A compromise is to go for a basic flight but pay for an upgrade. Charter flights land at Sanford, which is 50 – 60 minutes away from most of the villas. But it is a very easy journey, which gives you time to adjust to driving on the other side of the road if you are from the UK.
