If you’ve ever wanted to drive, or be a passenger in, one of those souped-up, 600 horsepower NASCAR race cars, then here is you opportunity. The Richard Petty Driving Experience is located next to the Magic Kingdom parking lot, and is definitely the fastest ‘ride’ at Disney!
There are four different Experiences to choose from, and here is a little bit about what each one offers.
The Ride-Along Experience gives you the opportunity to be the passenger in a two-seat stock car driven by a professional instructor. You will travel at speeds up to 145 mph as you drive three laps on a simulated NASCAR qualifying run.
The Rookie Experience means that you are in the driving seat and your foot is on the gas for eight laps of the speedway track in a V8 NASCAR style race car with 600 horsepower. Before having the opportunity to drive the car you will go through safety and instruction training both for in the car and on the track and you are driven round the track in a van and given some instructions about how to deal with the different corners etc.
The Kings Experience gives you the chance to drive eighteen laps round the track, in one eight lap session and one ten lap session. Again, before you can get behind the wheel, you are given safety training and instructions for the car and the track, and the trip in the van.
The Experience of a Lifetime offers thirty laps of the speedway track in three sessions of ten laps each. You work on building up your speed in each session and possibly even finding out that you really should have been a racing driver rather than whatever job you are doing now! The same safety instructions and track orientations are given as before.
To take part in the Ride-Along experience you must be at least 16 years old, and 16 – 17 yr olds need to have parental consent. All the other experiences require you to be at least 18 years old and have a full driving licence. There is no need to bring anything special to wear for the experiences, except for closed-toe shoes, as all participants are provided with a regulation helmet, neck guard and a lovely blue jumpsuit.
If you are not taking part in the actual experience there is no problem with just going along to watch. There is a special seating area for family and friends and videos and cameras are welcome so that every aspect of the day can be recorded for posterity.
The Ride-Alongs are available without booking – just turn up on the day, but the other experiences need to be booked in advance, and can be dependent on the weather.Page added on: 16 February 2006 Author: Steve and Elaine McNulty (Villa link: www.orlandovillas.com /florida-vacation-rental-1582.aspx) We aim to provide acccurate and useful information, but if you feel anything provided here is not accurate or out of date, please email us with the address of the page concerned and any commments so we can amend as necessary.
