Rides for Small Boys in The Magic Kingdom - Part 2
The Liberty Square Steam Ship is an old fashioned paddle steamer and all the fixtures and fitting are faithfully reproduced for every one to explore and look at. From the announcement of “All aboard” to the sound of the crew making ready to cast away and to the shrill whistle of the ships warning of its approach, every small boy on board can pretend they are sailing away to an adventure.
During this cruise they will pass by the Haunted Mansion, home to 999 friendly ghosts, and see some of the gravestones of the residents so their next stop will definitely be this.
They will pass by a horseless glass hearse but with all the riding tackle and coffin in place – very creepy. Entering the mansion they will be greeted by white faced butlers staring down at them without speaking and a voice telling them to move to the “dead” centre of the room. The room will then appear to sink down to a dungeon where their car will be waiting for them to go on a ride to meet all the ghosts – one will even hitch a ride with them.
Once out of the mansion they will probably bolt very swiftly through Fantasy Land, by-passing The Prince Charming Carousel, It’s a Small World, Dumbo’s Flight and head straight to the Speedway track. Here they can drive their own racing car and pretend they are Jensen Button screaming round the track at Monaco albeit some what more slowly!
After this, the very brave ones will probably want to try Space Mountain and if they reach the height level allowed they will be processed through the astronaut screening and board a rocket ship. They will race round the roller coaster track in the dark with only an occasional star or asteroid to light their way.
If they still have the stomach for it ( and the usually will) they can go to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Here they will have to stop the Evil Emporer Zurg from stealing the Universe’s cystollic fusion cell supply. They will board their spaceship armed with a ray gun and shoot the evil enemy down and spin their spaceships round to get all the villains.
After all this I think even the most cynical small boy will agree that The Magic Kingdom is not just all about “Princesses” indeed, I expect they will want to go round it all again and again.
