Close to the attractions is the suburb of Winter Park, a little known town with its own scenic boat tour. Located on Lake Osceola, this is ideal for a quiet, inexpensive day out, or a leisurely alternative for those who want a day of from the thrill and bustle of the great theme parks Orlando and Central Florida is famous for.
This boat tour has been around for 50 years so countless visitors have enjoyed it over this time. It’s a very relaxing ‘cruise’ through beautiful canals and lakes that are part of Winter Park. Away from the roads, passengers can relax and enjoy views of Rollins College, a 70 acre arts college campus with Spanish-Mediterranean architecture. (It is Florida’s oldest recognised college. ) View the Kraft Azalea Gardens with azaleas displaying magnificent colours from January to March along the edge of the lake. Whilst you cruise, admire tropical birds - large cranes and herons waiting by the water’s edge to spy and catch fish. You might even see an alligator lazing in the Florida sunshine, or hiding in the lush plantation and willowing cypress trees. Admire the beautiful sub-tropical flowers, varying their look at different times of the year.
Admire the varying architecture of the properties on the Isle of Sicily, a striking area of Winter Park. View and gaze at the luxurious private homes and mansions situated along the shores of this pretty area.
You will be guided by your own ‘Skipper’ along your one hour cruise taking in twelve miles of beautiful scenery. These unusual boats are based on a pontoon with bench seats from side to side, carrying 18 passengers.
The scenic boat tour departs very closely from Park Avenue, a popular upmarket shopping area on the East end of Morse Boulevard on Lake Osceola. After the boat trip, take some time to stroll along here where there places to take coffee or eat.
Tours depart on the hour from 10am through to 4pm (except Christmas). At the time of writing tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for children. (Children are 2 – 11 years). If you are under 2 years you get to ride free!
The journey, on average, takes less than hour from most rental homes available through Orlando Villas. com. Take the I-4 east towards Orlando, turn off at exit 85 for Princeton Street, turn right at E Princeton St, left at N Orange Ave, continue onto W Fairbanks Ave, left at S Park Ave and right into E Morse Blvd.
