How we spend our last day.
None of us like the thought of our holiday coming to an end and although we don’t mind going home to see family and friends we don’t really enjoy the thought of having to go back to work and the less than perfect British weather. This is the reason we try to make the most of the last day of our holiday.
We usually make sure we have done the majority of our packing the day before just leaving the last few bits and bobs to be packed on the final morning.
We head off nice and early to Downtown Disney to drop off the bags and check in at the Virgin desk. This means we can get our boarding passes so that we don’t have to be at the airport until around an hour before our flight is due to leave although we usually arrive a little earlier than this.
Next its breakfast, we usually opt for the Golden Corral if the family are with us but if it’s just the two of us then it’s got to be the Front Street Café at Celebration. Steve and I love to have a relaxing breakfast, usually one of their delicious omelettes, sat outside watching the world go by. After breakfast we like to take a stroll around the lake watching the wildlife and trying to spot the local gator. Then it’s back to the villa.
We always book a late check out, even though we now own our own villa we still have to make sure that our managers are aware we will be leaving late so that the cleaners don’t have a wasted journey. First we do all the necessary little jobs such as stripping the beds and starting the first load of washing, emptying the fridge and making sure we haven’t left anything in the drawers or under the beds. Then we head for the pool for a final swim and a little more sunbathing to top up our tans that will hopefully last us until our next trip. We usual snack on the last few Ruffles crisps and any Ben and Jerry’s ice cream that is left and then it’s into the shower to get ready for the journey home. Once everyone is ready we load the dishwasher with any dirty dishes and set it going before we head out the door.
Once we get to the airport we drop off the hire car and then head to the Macaroni Grill for dinner so that we don’t have to bother with the in flight meal. Even though we find the meals on the way to Florida OK we have had some awful ones on the way home and I can’t sleep if I’m hungry. I personally hate the airline breakfasts so we always buy some muffins from the bakery at Publix on the way to the airport to have in our hand luggage for the following morning.
Finally we head for the gate and our flight home, relaxed and happy and planning our next trip back.
