Step aboard The Great Movie Ride - Orlando / Florida Guide

The Great Movie ride can be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and is located inside Disney’s recreation of the famous Hollywood landmark, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. This 1989 attraction covers over 95, 000 square feet and can be found at the end of Hollywood Boulevard. Once inside this famous Hollywood theatre, guests walk through the accurately reproduced lobby to lead them onto a ride that will take them right to the very heart of filmmaking.
We all know that queuing is a part of life when visiting any theme park, however there is no need to fear how you will keep the kids entertained. The entry line winds through the lobby where display cases house movie costumes and props. Children and adults alike will be able to see the Merry Go Round horse that the infamous Julie Andrews rode in her days as Mary Poppins and children can be dazzled by the Ruby Slippers from The Wizard of Oz.
After leaving the lobby, guests will then enter the large theatre area where they are shown a number of trailers for various famous films, both young and old.
Once at the front of the queue you will board a 70-seater tram in the Hollywood Hills along with your guide and from here you will enter the world of the silver screen.
As you enter the world of movies you will be treated to performances by Gene Kelly who can be found swinging round a lamppost in the pouring rain, and then you are whisked off to the rooftops of London to spend some time with the chimney sweeps.
The bright and upbeat world of the musical is soon a distant memory as you are transported into the dark and dangerous world of the gangster. Here you may find yourself caught up in a shoot out between fellow gangs so make sure you hold onto those belongings!
It is not anymore of a comfort when you then find yourself moving rather slowly through the Nostromo, the ship from Ridley Scott’s Alien and then straight into the temple of Snakes from Raiders of the Lost Ark. With no sign of your guide at this point things can begin to get a little frightening!
After all those rather scary encounters it is without doubt that guests are relieved to find themselves entering the jungle with Tarzan, Jane and their tree swinging friends. Guests are then treated to the famous scene from Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. If this isn’t enough to make you go all gooey inside and forget the aliens and gangsters previously encountered, don’t worry as helping to save all the munchkins from the Wicked Witch of the West is bound to do the job! Guests are then invited follow the Yellow Brick Road for the finale of the Great Movie Ride.
As if your knowledge of movies hadn’t been tested enough from the moment you entered the famous Hollywood theatre, your tram is then transported to a large theatre where a compilation of famous scenes and lines from the movies are shown. From The Way We Were to Star Wars or The Chronicles of Narnia to Gone With The Wind there are films featured to delight both the young and somewhat older audiences!
No visit to Hollywood Studios could possibly be complete without at least one tour on The Great Movie Ride!Page added on: 18 October 2007
