The Atlantic Coast

The Atlantic coast is the home to the Kennedy Space centre, the Astronaughts hall of fame, Ron Jon’s surf shop and much much more.

It takes about an hour to reach the Atlantic coast line of Florida from Orlando, not long really to spend some days out that are different and as exciting as the theme parks themselves.

The Kennedy space centre is a real experience and even if you are not particularly technically minded like me there are lots of things that will interest you . There are not as many now but occasionally you just might be lucky enough to be in Florida to witness a live launch, now that is something you would not want to miss the atmosphere is electric and you will never experience anything else like it ever. . There are tours round the actual launch pad , which are coincidentally guarded by alligators ( I certainly wouldn’t want to argue with one ! ) and museums of past expeditions to the moon, real rockets to explore a real launch simulator and in all a very interesting day out. The shops have astronaughts dried food and all sorts of gifts and souvenir’s. In conjunction with the space centre there is the hall of fame, where you can experience weightlessness, a rocket simulator and learn all about all the past history of all astronaughts that have lifted off from Kennedy. Great fun and well worth a visit.

The Atlantic coast namely Cocoa Beach is well known for it’s great surfing, people come from all over the world to experience it’s great beach and wonderful surfing , the beaches are beautiful with white sand stretching for miles. The undercurrents are very strong so great care must be taken if you are not a strong swimmer, or with children. There is a pier and you can even hire a surf board to have a go yourself.

Also found at Cocoa beach is the world known Ron Jons surf shop, a massive shop with every kind of surf board you can think of in every colour. Also a great range of swim wear and casual clothes, a great way to spend a few hours when you have finished on the beach for the day.

The main street in Cocoa has the usual array of shops and restaurants with plenty of lovely seafood and makes a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Orlando.
