Every time we visit Hollywood Studios we seem to miss some of the attractions that are furthest away from the entrance mainly because we visit so many of the attractions as we walk around but often missing some of the ones tucked away at the back
One such ride is the Great Movie Ride it is somewhat tucked away behind the giant Mickey Wizard Hat, this doesn’t seem to be that much of a popular ride and the queues often seem quite small plus most of the waiting is done inside a big building which is air conditioned and so this is a great ride if its hot and you want to find some cool air
This ride has obviously been here since the park was built but don’t let that put you off, this is a really great ride in my view. You climb aboard one of the slow moving seating vehicles and a guide sits in the front giving you a running commentary from the front
The tour takes you from the very start of the movies to the very present day showing you some of the very famous scenes from many well known films such as the scene with Bergman and Bogart for Casablanca with the immortal phrase “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine” ! Or a scene from one of the many famous black and white gangster films of the fifties especially the one where Jimmy Cagney uttered those famous word “you dirty rat” although the younger visitors will probably have no idea who he was
Its in the gangster era that we suddenly become involved in the action as we get caught in the cross fire between two rival gangs, one of the gangsters makes a get away by hijacking our vehicle at gunpoint to make his getaway. From then on you get a very different take on the many scenes that you visit on your way to the modern day, as with all Disney guides they really keep you the audience involved and more importantly entertained
Of all the Disney rides out there I personally think that the guides on this particular ride are the best the interact with the visitors really well and despite the fact that they are doing the same routine over and over again they make this ride really fun and put a lot into it
There are some really good sets, in particular there is a part where you travel through the Alien Encounter film set and this is quite eerie and you can feel the hairs stand up on the back of your neck
At some point towards the end of the ride the gangster departs and you get back your original guide, we all really enjoyed this ride it really is a great ride which is often overlooked
It’s well worth a visit, and children and adults alike will enjoy this ride.Page added on: 23 June 2007
