Having not been to Universal for well over 3 years now, I was pleasantly surprised that they have updated some of the park and included even more rides and attractions than before. Some of the new rides have replaced the older ones (King Kong), but some of them have been built on new areas. Hopefully in this review I can let you know about some of the rides now at Universal.
Shrek 4-D
Very similar in concept to the muppet 3-D show at Disney, Shrek 4-D involves the audience as much as possible with everyone in the audience having the same experience no matter where you sit. They have created a new movie clip of Donkey and Shrek and you ride with them in the adventure. It is very cleaver how it is all put together and without spoiling it for everyone all I can say is prepare to get up close and personal with all the characters!
Revenge of the Mummy
This is Universals newest ride and replaces the old and tired King Kong ride. The ride is basically an inside dark coaster and has plenty of twists and drops. Certainly not for those that do not like the dark of rollercoasters.
Men in Black (MIB)
This ride is one of my favourite rides as you get out of it what you put into it. You are all loaded up in a car and sent out to try and score as many points as possible. You are able to shoot all the local badies (i.e aliens) and also shoot at the other cars going round. As you do you are scored on how well you do. Gain a certain amount of points and you can get into the MIB hall of fame. This is a great ride for all the family and really gets you working as a team to score more points than the other cars.
Terminator 3-D
One of my old favourites Terminator 3-D is a mixture of movie and in theatre acting. Take a trip with the T1000 as he tries to get into the Cyberdine factory and destroy the new robots. This film was shot by Universal using Arnie himself and links T2 with T3. Watch as you are thrown into the action to stop the destruction of the world.
Fear Factor Live
One of the more newer live shows, certain people in the audience are picked and told to do things that make your hair stand on end. Not for the faint hearted and certainly do not sit near the front if you don’t want to get picked. Watch people eat all sorts of things!
Over the years what sets Universal out from the other theme parks is their ability to keep the park looking fresh. King Kong was a very popular ride, however was becoming very long in the tooth. Not content with the way it was they got rid of it and replaced it with the very good Mummy ride. This in itself is what makes Universal appeal to all ages.
