The US 27 has changed so much over the past few years , it is hardly recognizable. when we first visited in 1989 it was just a stretch of road that we used to go to Cyprus Gardens or Tampa, there was absolutely nothing along it apart from the odd garage ,no restaurants, shops or supermarkets let alone any hotels and houses just miles and miles of beautiful orange groves as far as the eye could see. You could even smell them at certain times of the year. But like everything things change and grow.
Gradually one or two new housing communities started appearing , then a few shops and restaurants, but with these additions slowly and sadly the orange groves started disappearing to make way for yet more and more houses shops and restaurants.
I know change is inevitable and I am one of those people to have been lucky enough to have bought on one of those lovely communities but it is sad that they have not been able to have kept a few more of the Orange groves not only for the produce but they are lovely to see.
From the vacationers point of view the 27 is a great place to be, Disney is very easily reached in a matter of minutes , the I-4 is close enabling you to get to the other attractions like Universal Studios and Islands of adventure or Seaworld and the many different Malls that there are now ( every time we visit there seems to be a new one and there are many Golf courses right on the doorstep.
If you are staying on a community on the 27 there are now many brilliant restaurants , supermarkets, and the well known “ Walmarts “!
That we all love !! It is certainly a great place to be staying. Then after all the hustle and bustle of the parks and attractions when you return to your vacation home you can relax where there is peace and quiet , chill out by the pool ready for the next busy day.
In the opposite direction to the main attractions the Gulf coast is easily accessible too, just a couple of hours to the beautiful beaches certainly not to be missed if you haven’t yet visited them.
In all the 27 has grown and prospered perhaps we should plant an orange tree in our gardens ………I have !
