Checking-in with Virgin Atlantic – A great way to start your trip and a brilliant way to finish it!

Having flown many times to Florida with Virgin Atlantic and also occasionally using the Virgin Downtown Disney check-in on the way back from Florida, we have only just discovered some of the other great check-in facilities that they offer to make the travelling a little bit easier.

On-line check-in

You can use this facility up to 24 hours before travelling from the comfort of your own PC. You just use the Virgin Atlantic website, go to ‘Manage your Flights’ and click on ‘check-in’, then enter your booking reference and details. You can then choose your seat, or confirm the seat that you have already pre-booked, confirm any meal requirements etc. Then, on arrival at the airport, go straight to the Virgin DIY Check-in lane to drop off your bags and collect your boarding card (you have to check-in more than 60 minutes before scheduled departure time). This really cuts down on the queueing at the airport.

Then you can repeat the process on the return journey – 24 hours prior to departure, just find a PC at your hotel, villa, local library or internet café and check-in online.

At Heathrow Airport, they have also introduced DIY Check-in Kiosks – these are self-service machines by the check-in desks, where you can enter your details as with the on-line facility, print out your boarding cards, then drop your bags off at the bag-drop area, again saving time in the queues.

Twilight check-in

This facility is available at Gatwick Airport – you can check-in between midday and 9.00 p.m. on the day before departure and on the actual day, on arrival at the airport you can go straight through to departures. This is particularly useful if you are staying in a hotel near the airport the night before flying.

Downtown Disney Check-in

This is a great facility for people to check-in their luggage early on the day of departure before going to the airport , it is especially useful if you have to check out of your hotel/villa in the morning and it leaves the rest of the day free to enjoy without the burden of luggage. The check-in desk is situated in Downtown Disney, near the Cirque de Soleil building and opens from 8.00am to 1.00pm – you can check in your luggage and collect your boarding cards. There is usually a $5 charge for this.
