WAL-MART – LOVE IT!!
Now, if you are on a first visit to the Orlando area, I am sure that shopping is on your mind. All those designer outlets you have heard about and those jean outlets to think of only two shopping possibilities. But, as a long time visitor to the area, I would have to urge you to consider going to a well known supermarket…yes SUPERMARKET! !
Wal-Mart will not be an unknown name these days, as you will have undoubtedly seen it linked with the ASDA name back in the UK. But, I have to say it has long been a favourite of ours (16 years in fact), before we became owners, we would often pop in of an evening, when our daughter had dropped off to sleep in her buggy, just because we could pick up just about anything and everything you could imagine…and a few things you wouldn’t imagine! !
They can be found all over the Orlando area and you don’t need to travel far before finding one, especially on the h27 where there are 2 about 20 minutes from each other. The opening hours are just fantastic, most of them are open for 24 hours and I am happy to admit that on many an occasion I have been seen wandering around the isles at all sorts of hours. But never during the sunshine hours! ! Please, there is no need! ! !
We have bought such varied items over the years, from children’s clothes and shoes to cd’s and DVDs. Now we like the T-shirts with slogans and of course all the items you can imagine for the home, whether it be for the US or the UK. If there is something you need then no doubt Wal-Mart will have it, I seriously doubt you could come up with something they don’t stock.
Though we do buy food supplies when we are there, we are often too busy looking at everything else, these days with a shopping list before we get there, to worry too much about the food! !
I often find gifts that are a little bit different and kinder to my pocket when there, so I am very open minded before I go, and have an idea of whose occasion is coming up, be it birthday or Christmas!
Many of the food items are great and the prices certainly are, but to be fair, there are so many choices for one type of food, that for a vacation food stock, it may be a little too much, just because you will spend so long picking which make of bran flakes you want etc, that in many ways for food only, you may be better served to go to a smaller supermarket? That said, the bakery will tempt you without a doubt, in most cases to have things you really don’t need! !
The tank with live lobsters in it on the fresh fish counter, has always been a firm favourite, though these days I feel a little sorry for them.
Apart from the huge selection of food stuffs, some you will recognize, some you will not, the rest of the store is more like 4 or 5 different stores all rolled into one! This is why it seriously takes a couple of hours to get round…at least……and you will want to go back! ! Clothes are without doubt a real bargain, especially the kids’ things, and as with many supermarket selections these days, should not be dismissed. Even the jeans and trainers that you pay a small fortune for back home are worth checking out. Seriously, you name it; I bet Wal-Mart sell it! !
Should you encounter a rainy day or have an evening free, don’t waste it; spend the time finding all the choices and bargains in Wal-Mart! We just enjoy a visit, near a holiday season like Halloween or Christmas is particularly good! ! I am a fan! !
