If, like me, you visited Disney World this year, you will undoubtedly have seen promotions for the ‘Year of a Million Dreams. ’ This wonderful celebration followed on from the Millenia 2000 celebrations, Walt Disney’s ‘100 years of Magic’ birthday celebration , and of course, Mickey Mouse’s 75th anniversary. It has been a staggering success, due in main to the array of prizes being given away at random.

But who could not have harboured their own wish to win the ultimate dream prize - to be chosen to spend a night in Cinderella’s Castle, in the specially built luxury suite hidden deep in the castle itself, at Magic Kingdom. More than anything else this prize has captured people’s imaginations. What a fantasy that would have been – to be one of the very few allowed to sleep in this fantastic suite, with its amazing bathroom decorated with exquisite mosaic tiled murals. Not only that, but lucky winners would have been allowed to stay overnight in Magic Kingdom, something nobody else has ever been allowed to do. I know that I would have loved to have been chosen – even at my age! This, alone, has been an amazing success, not to mention the giving away of free meals and fast passes. I can remember standing in the queue of Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom and seeing a family proudly displaying their special Fast Pass tickets around their necks. They, of course, went straight to the front of the queue. But sadly, we were not to be the lucky ones.

So imagine my delight when I read that Disney are extending their ‘Year of a Million Dreams’ throughout 2008, and that they will be adding even more exciting and wonderful prizes, including a balloon ride over Epcot, a private tropical island visit, and a VIP invitation to the world premier of ‘High School Musical 3. ’ Not only that, but they are also offering some lucky sports fanatic the chance to throw the first pitch in a Major League Baseball spring-training game – not my ideal choice, I know, as I would prefer the suite in Cinderella’s castle, but for some baseball fan it will be the ultimate prize. There will be behind-the-scenes tours of the Imagineering studios which I think would be absolutely fascinating. Seeing the wonderful puppetry in such things as the American exhibition at Epcot, makes me long to see how it is all done. But I would settle for breakfast with one of the costumed Walt Disney characters if that was all that was on offer!

I don’t think you are ever too old for Disney, and I for one would love to be at the receiving end of one of their magical prizes. So I am afraid it means that I will just have to go back again next year……I am already planning my trip!
