When we visited our villa in May 2007 it was nice to see Berry Town Centre nearing completion with a few extra shops and eating places. The one that stands out is Applebee’s Restaurant which I think has numerous restaurants in America although we have never visited one before. Being situated on the US27 it is quite handy for all the different developments being built along there and is a welcome short drive from our villa.
The restaurant is very much like Chillis at Champions Gate and serves very similar American food – burgers a house speciality. There are plenty of parking spaces and a take-out section. While you wait, there are numerous wide screen televisions around a central bar area showing sports. We did not have to wait for a table but it was extremely busy and hectic. The food in general was OK however everything seemed to be rushed – we like to take our time over evening meals and make a night of it – this is a personal preference. Applebee’s had only been opened a short time and obviously had been busy from the start however hopefully time would help to iron out some of the problems we encountered. The starters were standard and we ordered a selection of burgers and I had a steak. The server was helpful but had too many tables to deal with and when he took our order he brought a menu they were going to start the following week. No good to us then! ! ! The kids enjoyed their burgers but unfortunately the steak was underdone and so they took it away and cooked it a little longer. Although the steak came back done as I had asked for the rest of the family had eaten their meals and quite frankly I was not impressed. This maybe was a teething problem as the restaurant had only been open a short while and was obviously taken by surprise as to how busy it was.
Applebee’s was not expensive compared to other restaurants and is geared up for families and quite fast service and if you want quick American type food in a busy atmosphere Applebee’s is worth a visit.
There is room to eat outside during the nice weather and I am sure the location of Applebee’s will make this a very popular eating venue. Having a villa on US27 makes Applebee’s a very handy eating location for us and we will be trying them again and hoping for a much better experience.
