I usually give the water rides at miss at theme parks, one because I’m a whimp and don’t want to get soaked and secondly because I don’t want to spend the rest of my day walking around dripping wet.
However, my daughter convinced me that this was one water ride where I would not get a soaking and so I decided, against my better judgment, to give it a go. I was so glad I did as I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and even better managed to exit the ride completely dry! I had to admit though that I did see a few people who were slightly wet but nothing that wouldn’t dry out fairly quickly.
The Jurassic Park River Adventure is located in the largest of the five islands within Islands of Adventure. To ride you must be 42 inches. As the ride commences all is calm as your boat glides through a tropical setting but it is not long before you are being stalked by velociraptors and a seventy-foot T-Rex. Oh, how I hate those velociraptors, I didn’t like them in the film and I wasn’t very keen on them following me either, but it did all add to the tension and excitement of the ride. Your only escape is to plunge down an eighty-five foot drop in total darkness. I thought that everything was very realistic and at one point I did actually feel as though I might have been on a real movie set.
I suggest you ride Jurassic Park River Adventure as early as possible as the lines do get longer throughout the day. There can sometimes be a wait as long as ninety minutes, unless you pay for an express pass. Alternatively, you can try for the single-rider line but this will mean that you will not be sitting next to the person you are visiting the park with. However, they will possibly be in the same boat just a row or two behind you.
A couple of interesting facts about the ride, which you can relate to your friends and family on your return home, are that there are 1. 5 million gallons of water used in the Jurassic Park River Adventure and the plunge at the end of the ride is eighty-five feet! This is the longest water descent ever built in a theme park water ride, although I must admit it did not seen that long at the time – perhaps it was because I had my eyes shut.
