Sonics American fast food joint is situated on International Drive and it is a 1950s inspired drive in, fast food restaurant. It is a really great place to take the kids, young and old alike. It has been around a while and the original Sonic opened in 1953 and it is still based around that period and the 1950s dining scene. (Originally I believe it was just a stand selling Hamburger and drinks).
You drive in to the parking places and they have the usual drive in voice intercoms and menus for you to read at each parking place. You then place your order by that means. Once you have ordered you sit and wait in your car. The waiting staff then delivers your meal to your car either by foot or as per the original days on roller skates. Most people eat it on the premises in their car but you can take it away minus the tray of course!
The menu is your basic American fast food staple concentrating on old fashioned burgers, Chilli dogs, various wraps, chicken, sandwiches, salads, fries and onion rings. The Shakes are really good too plus they have all the normal soda fountain drinks as well as Slushies in fab flavours like Blue Coconut or Grape. Kids have their own menu to choose from and they come with the obligatory toy! The dessert menu should not be missed either and old favourites like banana splits and sundaes make an appearance along with a few other tempting dishes.
The price is average for this sort of fast food meal and a meal for a family of 4 should not cost more than a few dollars each.
We visited for breakfast and that meal consisted of a Breakfast Toaster Sandwich, with hash brown and a drink, it was different to the norm and quite tasty! They had about 4 different menus you could choose from for their breakfast items. You could also add to it if you wanted to with such things as Jalapenos peppers, chilli, extra bacon or cheese, the latter two choices being a better bet first thing in the morning!!!
The service is warm and friendly and when we were there super efficient, if you are fed up with the normal at McDonalds, Wendy’s or Burger King why not give it a visit even if it is just the once, I think you might just enjoy the experience.
