American Idol Experience
An avid follower of American Idol on ITV2 at home, I headed straight for the American Idol Experience at Hollywood Studios. You can audition here or simply take a seat and become part of the judging process. However, I think the auditionees take it very seriously as the winner of each day gets a golden ticket to enter the actual American Idol, allowing them to go straight to the front of the queues in whatever city of their choice. They have to have gone through a process at the park to get in front of the audiences prior to the hourly shows, , then each winner enters a finale at the end of the day.
We chose to have a seat in the large auditorium and watch the show that had three hopefuls sing a 90 second song. Ryan Seacrest speaks on the previously filmed footage and then the host for the day plus 3 judges enter onto the stage. The panel consisted of two very flamboyant ladies plus a grumpy a chap (I imagine to be the “Simon Cowell” of the group as his comments can be cutting).
Then the three contestants enter and there is usual story telling of how they came to be there that day etc. Two young lads and a very whacky girl were the three we saw. The first young man sang “I can see clearly now” very well, and looked the part – described by one judge as ear candy and eye candy. The second was the young lady who danced around the stage (somewhat annoyingly) and sang “Walking on Sunshine” – the judges were kind but she didn’t give a great rendition. The final contestant had the most fantastic country voice and sang a Garth Brooks song. All three judges sang his praises.
There is pre-recorded footage from American Idol winners and Jordan Sparks then sings “Ive got the music in me” which has been shot around Hollywood Studio and this gets the audience up on their feet.
We all then have a voting pad in our arm rests and we decide the winner. Number 3 won (hands down in my opinion)!
It is a good show and a welcome sit down in a nice air conditioned auditorium. Highly recommend this attraction.
It turns out that two the final 12 boys this season (2011) originally came from the Disney park auditions, so it proves that it works for some and is a real chance for the hopefuls – not sure how it works if you are from the UK as we didn’t investigate the audition route but am sure they allow you to go through the process if you want to.
