Annual Events at Celebration
If you have never been to Celebration it really is a Must Do on any Disney holiday even if it is just to stroll around the shops or sit and relax in a rocking chair around the lake. It is situated on the 192 about 4 miles before you reach the 27.
In the early 1990s, the Disney Development Company established the Celebration Company to create a small town covering nearly 5000 acres with its own Fire department, Post Office, Schools and Hospital.
As you enter Celebration you come to Celebration Golf Course which is facing Golf Park Drive which is lined with upscale homes that are fashionably decorated. The styles range from Colonial, Mediterranean, Traditional, Country, Spanish, and George Town style two and three story town homes with fireplaces.
If ever you visit Celebration at Halloween or Christmas be sure to take a detour around the various roads to see the houses and their seasonal decorations. One year we even saw one very large house completely decorated as though it was a giant parcel!
Celebration has many annual events every year, some of which include community-wide yard sales, an art show, an exotic car festival, the ' Great American Pie Festival' , a ' Posh Pooch' festival. It is not unusual to see a small dog in a buggy with ribbons in its hair, often these can be seen in the vicinity of the Dog Bark Bakery!
On the 4th July this year (2009) in Celebrations town centre they had “A Flashback 4th of July” This had a 70’s costume contest for all comers plus a fireworks spectacular set to the theme of the 70’s music, and a concert by a band of local favourites.
There was also a KidZone with an assortment of inflatable games for kids and teens that included a jousting area, interactive games and face painting.
During late September and into October they also have an Ocktober every weekend and this is not to be missed. There is lots of fun for the whole family with Leaves Falling Nightly in the Main Street three times during the evening. We sometimes sit at the Imperium Wine bar and enjoy a drink while the girls run amongst the leaves. On one of the October weekends they usually have hayrides, pumpkin painting and live music.
Another Must Do is the Snowing Nightly event which takes place from the end of November until December 31st.
In the Main Street, fantastically decorated for Christmas, three times each evening the snow machines cascade the snow down on excited children and some adults too! Charles Dickens Carolers serenade everyone and you can have your photos taken with Santa as well as a ride on the Celebration Express which is a horse drawn carriage ride that takes you around the surrounding roads.
The Snowing Nightly event ends with a New Years Eve Celebration featuring a live band, a fireworks spectacular and final snowfall of the year at midnight. We have never been to this but plan to the next time we spend New Year at our villa.
Be sure to go to Celebration and if possible go to one of their annual events you will not be disappointed.
