Blastaway Beach.
We first visited Florida over 30 years ago and at that time the only water park to visit was Wet and Wild.
So visit we did; many times. And everybody loved it. I do not think there was anything in the world at that time like it.
Then along came Typhoon Lagoon which was so lush and visually pleasing that we transferred our loyalty to this park. Later on there came Blizzard Beach which amazed us afresh and more recently Aquatica muscled its way into our affections.
So what could tempt us back to our old favourite. . . anything? Well, I have just had news that has piqued our interest enough to give it another try.
So what is it? Blastaway Beach, that is what. This is described as a family fun attraction in a family friendly environment with lush tropical plantings.
At the epicentre of this new attraction is a sand castle; not your normal beach sand castle, mind, but a 60 foot giant that sits betwixt 2 pools.
The castle houses 17 slides and dozens of waterfalls, soakers and cannons and uses 850, 000 of water. The whole area is around one acre of wet fun.
Since this attraction does not open til june the 3rd I have obviously not seen it in person but the artists impression looks every bit as good as anything Disney could come up with.
This is the first new installation at Wet and Wild for 4 years but I am guessing that it is a major investment for the park so well worth waiting for.
If you are wondering where they found room for this new attraction I can tell you that they have removed the old childrens area to make room for it.
The opening hours for Wet and Wild vary but most usually they open the gates between 9. 30 amd 10 a. m and throw you out between 5 p. m. and 7 p. m.
