Disney’s Candlelight Processional at Epcot - 2007
Disney’s Candlelight Processional is held every Christmas holiday season. It takes place in the American Gardens Theatre, which is situated in Walt Disney’s World Showcase in Epcot. Being an outdoor concert and in the middle of winter, although of course Florida winters are generally very mild, it is best to be prepared and take a warm jumper or jacket just in case. The show is never cancelled due to inclement weather.
This year’s show commences on November 23rd and continues until December 30th. There are three shows each evening which run for approximately forty minutes. 2007 will be Disney’s thirty-seventh year holding this event and it has certainly become a Christmas tradition, Epcot just wouldn’t be the same without it now.
The Candlelight Processional is a very moving concert performed by a Mass choir, a 50-piece orchestra and one of the highlights being the readings by a different celebrity narrator each evening. So popular is it with the celebrities that certain ones return year after year.
There is no charge to view the Candlelight Processional; it is included with your entrance ticket to Epcot. However, unless you purchase a dinner package it is a case of first come, first serve regarding the seating. You may have to queue for over forty-five minutes to one hour some evenings. Bearing in mind that this event is very, very popular if you wish to more or less guarantee a good seat the dinner package is an excellent option.
The dinner package includes a meal (this must be taken before the show and not after) at certain Epcot restaurants and a reserved seat for the show. If you wish to make a reservation call (407) WDW-DINE (939-3463), you will be asked to choose a restaurant and a time. Do make sure that you allow ample time to eat your meal and then walking time to the theatre.
The choirs represent high schools from thirty different US states. There are over twenty-one thousand amateur singers who take part in the choir over the five weeks the event is staged. These choir members are dressed in gold. The choir members dressed in green are all Disney cast members, from a variety of departments within the Disney Company. The singers dressed in black and red are the Voices of Liberty. The guest narrators come from a variety of professions including acting, news reporters, sportsmen and women, even astronauts.
If you are visiting the parks during the holiday season I highly recommend that you do visit this show. It always gives me goose bumps to hear the choir sing and it seems to make Christmas that little bit special.
