Car Hire at Orlando Airport
Those of you who have travelled long haul know only too well that after several hours on an aircraft all you want to do is to retrieve the luggage and get to your final destination…..but first you need to pick up the car.
How often, then, have you been directed to what appears to be some far flung corner of the airport terminal to find the rental desks, only to discover that after all the paperwork has been completed, you, your luggage and the family in tow (all now in irritable mode) need to be bussed to some remote location ten minutes down the road to finally be acquainted with your vacation transport.
Well at Orlando International you may well be in for a pleasant surprise.
Naturally, all the major car rental companies are represented each offering “Gold” and “Silver” packages which, in essence, provide all inclusive insurance cover, up to unlimited / four named drivers, and usually a tank full of petrol… sorry gas!!
The great thing is they are located just a flight of stairs away from the baggage reclaim area, so no need to ask for directions and no route march across the airport.
Not sure whether it’s the fact that UK flights tend to arrive mid evening but my experiences, to date, have found that the queues for the rental companies have not been unduly long and quite manageable for the staff on duty. Maybe it’s down to luck, but I’ve always been treated with courtesy and respect, with the representatives only too pleased to offer advice and guidance, without being too pushy with regards the obligatory upgrade or special deal.
“So far so good” I hear you say……but when is than darn bus going to turn up??
Well, sorry to disapoint you because you’re going to have to walk....all 50 metres.
Just pick up your maps and documentation, exit via the automatic door adjacent to the rental desks and take your first steps into a warm Florida evening. Cross the road by the water fountain and you will be directed left into the parking lot where each category of vehicle is clearly displayed. The keys are usually left in the driver’s door so it’s just a case of choosing your favourite make and colour……and away you go.
On leaving the parking lot, direction signs to all the major routes are excellent so there are no excuses for getting lost!!
On a good day you can be hitting the road within 45 minutes of landing which, all in all, means less stress and helps get your vacation off to a great start.
