CELEBRATION - A Tasteful and Tranquil Retreat
Celebration is close to the Disney Theme Parks but is a world away from the noise and bustle. It was founded by the Walt Disney Co. in 1994 on Disney-owned land and consists of a series of developments, which are made up of homes built in various styles and was designed to crate the ambiance of a turn of the 20th Century, New England village.
The Town Centre is on the lake and consists of a number of speciality shops and a varied collection of restaurants. There is also a hotel and a cinema complex. Residents and their guests have the use of the sports facilities and swimming pool but everyone can enjoy the other amenities.
The Lake promenade has sun shades and rocking chairs and you can sit and watch the birds fishing and the alligators basking in the shallow waters at the edge of the lake. For families with children there are gushing fountains where the children can enjoy getting soaked as the water spouts flow and stop.
In the afternoons you can take tea and coffee or buy wonderful ice creams in the small shops and perhaps take a freshly baked cake home with you – not if you are on a diet though as most of them looked really sinful! The ice-creams come in a vast range of flavours so that you are tempted to add extra scoops just to taste the differences. What could be better on a hot afternoon?
In the evenings the restaurants are often busy but they are worth the wait as nearly all tastes can be catered for. We enjoyed the Spanish Tapas Bar and Restaurant where we could sit and order a range of small dishes throughout the evening. However, our favourite was the Celebration Town Tavern where we sat on the swinging tables and benches and enjoyed superb sea food dishes. They do also cook the usual steak dishes.
Alternative choices would be the Italian Restaurant with a fine range of pasta dishes as well as a variety of entrees. For the more adventurous there is a Japanese restaurant.
In order to justify all this eating you probably need to walk around the lake. It is very quiet once you are away from the town and it takes less than an hour to do the circuit.
Celebration is an excellent place to visit for an afternoon and if you look out you will see that they have special events on at various time of the year and we have found these well worth visiting.
