Florida Guide > Places to Visit
Celebration was conceived as an ideal small south eastern town, with a pre 1940's design by the Walt Disney Company in 1996. There are many beautiful homes, complete with front porch and rocking chairs. As most visitors are on vacation they probably have no desire to spend their valuable time driving round a housing community. Celebration is much more than this. One of my guests who was staying at our villa for a month was a keen "keep fit" person and wanted to use a gym whilst on vacation - The Fitness Centre at Florida Health (www.celebrationfitness.com
) offers a 2 week trial membership and is open 7 days a week. You can also take advantage of the Day Spa which offers various treatments and massages at a reasonable cost. There is a public 18 hole champion golf course, community parks, pleasant walks and the jewel in the crown - Market Street at Celebration. This compact area offers a host of speciality shops including Goodings, a long established Orlando deli/supermarket. These shops are open 7 days a week. Services that are often needed but can be difficult to find are also here, a dry cleaning service, 2 banks and US Postal Service. Enjoy the movies at the retro styled AMC Celebration in comfort and style. There are many special events on Market Street, most weekends there are horse and carriage rides offering scenic tours of Celebration, there are weekend/Sunday craft and sidewalk sales and probably 1 of the most popular and novel events from end of November to end of December is the "Now Snowing Nightly" - snow falls on the hour at Market Street, between 6pm-9pm (artificial, of course!!)
Market Street is also home to some good quality restaurants and prices are reasonable. For casual day or evening dining, visit the Market Street Cafe, this 50's style diner serves breakfasts, American classics and yummy desserts - I personally recommend the Keylime Pie.
Cafe D'Antonio offers a varied Italian menu with average price of mains around $18, this restaurant is very popular so booking is advisable. Check out their website www.antoniosonline.com for menu details. Another personal favourite is Columbia, one of Florida's oldest restaurants. The menu is extremely varied see www.columbiarestaurant.com although it is of a Spanish theme with tapas and seafood, there is plenty of steaks and chicken dishes. Columbia also have their own bar next door to the restaurant, you can drink, eat or both, whilst listening to the excellent Latin Duo on Fridays and Saturday evenings. You can also have a drink or dine at the bar at Celebration Town Tavern. For those seeking a little bit of the orient Seito Japanese Restaurant is one of Celebrations newer restaurants. Sherlocks of Celebration is based on an Olde English Tearoom, offering speciality teas and fine wines.
