Changes at Epcot 2010
The year 2010 will see some new store and restaurant openings at Epcot. Their restaurant expansion plans will mean that the amount of dining seats in Epcot will increase by about twenty per cant which will be good news for guests who have failed to get seated in the past. It is hoped that both restaurant expansions will be open in time for the 15th annual Food and Wine Festival.
It is more than more than 25 years since Mexican cooking was introduced at Epcot and it has proved very successful. So popular was it that you really did need to book in advance to dine in the casual candlelight atmosphere created in the restaurant. Now a new restaurant is planned that is nearly four times bigger than the original. Cantina de San Angel restaurant will be located directly in front of the Mexico pavilion in the World Showcase. This will open later in the year as a 400-seat waterside restaurant and quick-service food location specializing in Mexican cuisine.
The restaurant will serve as the first “flex- service restaurant” at Walt Disney World. Disney believes they need to cater for quick service meals during the day and guests will be able to enjoy an indoor, air-conditioned dining, or outdoor dining. In the evening the restaurant is converted into a tableside restaurant so it will probably be wise to book in advance.
Over at the Italy pavilion there are plans to open a new 300-seat pizzeria that will feature traditional Italian dishes. Guests can enjoy the Florentine architecture, vaulted-ceilings for indoor and outdoor dining.
In April a new merchandise kiosk Good Fortune Gifts opened in front of the China pavilion. This along with the Joy of Tea beverage kiosk will try to provide an atmosphere of a small Chinese market along the World Showcase promenade. This is one place we intend to visit on our next trip.
Givenchy has plans to open a new 300 sq. ft. shop at the France pavilion. This will be the only United States retail location that sells the full range of Givenchy make-up and skincare products, as well as Givenchy fragrances. The opening is planned for September.
My parents are off to our villa shortly and are going to make a reservation at the Rose and Crown Pub and Dining room as they have not eaten here for a few years. It is usually very busy so reservations are recommended. Apparently they have recently updated their menu to be even more traditional and this now includes Cottage Pies, Chicken Pies, Fish and Chips, Corned Beef Sandwich, Yorkshire Puddings, Mushy Peas, and more.
If you go to Epcot in 2010 I hope you get chance to enjoy some of the changes.
