Cherry Pocket 2011
We first visited the Cherry Pocket 4 years ago and at that time it was unknown to tourists. The people there were the local residents, cabin owners and boat owners, joined by people in the neighbourhood who were in the know. Since word got out, it is now visited by a lot of villa owners and their guests, who have been tipped off about the good and unusual food and, of course, the great location.
The Cherry Pocket is on the banks of the beautiful Lake Pierce in the Lake Wales area. A satnav is definitely recommended to find it. Once there it is not possible to walk around the lake as it is all private property, however, for the adventurous we have seen sea planes available for charter and it is worth enquiring about the air boat if you want to explore off the beaten track.
Live music is provided Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings with Karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays. There is also a children’s playroom to keep the youngsters happy. At some time of the year they have a happy hour with 2 drinks for the price of 1 and they also sometimes have offers in the coupon books.
The Cherry Pocket is certainly on our “must visit every trip” list. We do time it so that we can sit outside on the terrace, so in the Winter months this means going at lunch time. There is a smaller menu at lunch time but there is still plenty of choice and the food is just as tasty. When we visit in Spring or Autumn we time it to get there before dusk so that we can watch the sun go down and then look out for the alligators coming into the creek for the warmer waters in the shallows.
The food remains the major attraction and the menu is different to any other restaurant that we visit. Although it is primarily a fish restaurant I have been told that the meat is excellent too. Many of our guests have also visited and the feedback has been consistently positive. Not only is the food good but we always get helpful friendly service. The portions are very large but the staff are very happy for us to share meals and provide extra plates. We notice that they do a great trade in “doggy bags” as the meals even defeat the locals.
If you want a taste of the real Florida, this is the place to visit.
