Chillis at Champions Gate
Here is my review for Chillies at Champions Gate June 2007
We had heard of Champions Gate before but being a complete idiot at navigation had never actually found it ?
This visit we decided we would try and find this elusive place, though in reality it wasn’t that difficult at all too locate!
Turned out it took all of a 5 minute drive from our villa on highway 27. Onto the I4, off at the next junction (58 I think), and there it is. The entrance to Champions Gate is quite large so you are unlikely to miss it. On arrival we quickly parked up and hurried in as per usual we were starving!
We were seated very quickly and the staff did seem friendly, though we thought our actual table was very small – perhaps they were not going to give us large portions unlike every other Florida restaurant! ! !
Drinks were 2 for 1, and as I wasn’t driving I decided that this was a most excellent idea and quickly ordered a chardonnay (a glass full you understand not a bottle to myself…. ).
Sue went for the chicken crispers at 8. 99. She said they were very tasty and the batter was light. Her dish also came with corn on the cob (personally I don’t know why anyone likes that! ), which she said had lots of butter and was a bit soft. Chips were homemade – or at least appeared to be; a little bit on the cool side but the honey mustard dip was delicious.
I opted for the fajita’s and had a mix of beef and chicken with some refried beans and rice. Nothing outstanding but definitely tasted good and for 9. 99 tasted even better ? . I always think you can’t really go wrong with a fajita as it is a relatively simply dish, next time I shall be a bit more adventurous.
Obviously we were quite full up by now but magically find room to share a dessert. One portion of the cheesecake was more than enough for two anyway, very soft and sweet with a nice tangy raspberry sauce.
The total bill came to $36.
We felt that overall the food, service and value were good. The poor waitress did seem rushed off her feet and she obviously had many tables to attend too so we left her a generous tip. Their speciality is apparently margaritas; we didn’t try them but will next time! !
