Christmas day in Orlando
We have spent our family Christmas in Orlando and wanted to share our experience with you.
First of all we had to decide what we wanted to do. The family were split between having a relaxing day at the villa, cooking our own Christmas dinner and playing games. The other half wanted to go out, go to a theme park and grab dinner on the way home.
So foolishly we decided to try and do both!
So, before we left for our holiday, we called Disney and made a reservation for the ‘Ohana breakfast’ and the Polynesian Resort. Then the plan was to go to Epcot for a few hours, return to the villa, cook dinner then collapse into bed exhausted. And that’s exactly what happened.
The breakfast reservation was for 7.00am (it’s the only time they had left!) so we were up bright and early! We enjoyed a lovely meal of waffles, pastry’s, bacon, eggs and sausages – but best of all, we met Stitch!!!
After breakfast we jumped on the monorail and headed for Epcot. The queues were massive, but we went in anyway. We headed to soarin, then went off to the living seas, after that we walked around world showcase then hit the shops on the way out. It was around 3pm at this stage and the thought of cooking Christmas dinner was looming in our minds.
We left Epcot and headed home to the villa. We made a pit stop at Walgreens for some water then continued home.
Everyone was feeling tired by then as we had been on the go for hours, but we battled on determined to achieve our goal of Turkey and pudding!
We bought our turkey 3 days earlier from Target – it was a fraction of the cost in the UK and was the nicest turkey I have ever eaten. We also made pigs in blankets, had sprouts, carrots and roast potatoes – it was just like home.
My sister and husband were in charge of cooking so we left them to get on with it while we sat playing cards and talking about how busy Epcot was! Dinner was served at 6pm (we had set the oven on timer to cook the turkey while we were out) and we were all very relieved when it was put in front of us.
In spite of all the rushing about it was the best Christmas we have had. Such a different experience from all Christmas’ in the UK, and I can highly recommend this itinary to anyone who is wondering what to do on Christmas in Florida!
