Every little girls dream must be to visit Cinderella’s castle. It is the
place where dreams are made, and is such a fabulous building. Not only for the little girls though, as all ages seem to find the castle magical, romantic and full of childhood hopes and dreams.
As you enter through the gates at the Magic kingdom, you look up to see the impressive stone built fantasy fairytale castle with its blue turrets……. the infamous Cinderella Castle. It is heart warming to see the excitement in the children’s eyes as they gaze up in amazement towards the castle that must seem so huge to them.
I just love the castle, and have over the years seen it take on several different forms. One year when we visited Disney was celebrating a special birthday of 25 years and the castle was covered in a sort of inflatable skin, which made the castle look like a gigantic birthday cake. It was wonderful to see all the work that must have gone into the birthday celebration. In 2005/6 the castle was decorated in gold to celebrate 50years since the opening of Disney in Southern California.
As you walk up Main Street towards the castle entrance it dawns on you just how tall it is, over 180 feet, and as you climb the steps into the castle there is an amazing mosaic, made up of tiny pieces of coloured glass and showing scenes from the Cinderella fairytale. Inside the castle is a restaurant, “Cinderella’s Royal table” where you can get to meet the princess, such a treat for all the children and the romantics among you.
This year, the “Year of a million dreams”, you may be the lucky family that gets picked to spend a night in the luxury apartment inside Cinderella’s castle. It is one of the million of Disney’s giveaway wishes, and will be a dream come true for the lucky family who gets chosen. Imagine spending the night inside the dream castle. I could just imagine my daughters excitement if she could have spent the night in her favourite castle.
The evening firework display over the castle is not to be missed, and shows Tinker Bell flying from the castle. The lighting during the display changes the colour of the castle from red, to blue to gold……. and it is truly a memorable occasion for everyone. The atmosphere is electric, the fireworks are unforgettable and I know it is something that I will never forget, it sent shivers down my spine.
While you are watching, take a moment to look at the children’s faces…. . filled with wonder, dreams really do come true! !
