Disney's Wilderness Lodge -- part 2

In the first part of this article I had been describing the lobby so I will continue in that area. The next thing you will see at the back of the lobby area are the large windows that almost bring the outside wilderness area in to the hotel. Being Disney they have taken this to the next level and in the lobby area just before the windows there is an artificially heated hot spring in the floor which bubbles up to become the beginning of a river. This exits under the windows before increasing in volume as it turns into a flowing stream. This follows its course through the rocks before it ends up running into the main swimming pool.

There is a shop just off the main lobby but unfortunately this has gone the way of all Disney hotel shops. When it first opened the shop was stocked with the kinds of original things you would find in the North West, but not now. It is now mostly just Tee shirts and furry animals dressed are rangers. I am doing it a slight dis-service but anyone who has been in a Disney hotel shop recently will only be able to tell them apart but the way the furry toys are dressed.
What Disney does do well are all the minor decorations around the hotel with their normal outstanding attention to detail. As an example in the lobby area you can find a number of Native American artefacts with detailed explanations.

I have mentioned Christmas earlier but the tree they put up here, to me, is the best of them all. If you are here at this time of the year put some time aside for a visit you will not be disappointed.

I will deal with the restaurants and bars before we finally get on to the rooms and outdoor space. The eating options here are a bit limited but have said that what is on offer is very good if you are looking for the particular type. There is first of all Roaring Forks with Disney calls a counter service restaurant and is pretty much the same as any of this type just with a different theme.

The Whispering Canyon Café is a themed family restaurant with Western flare. The food is presented in large bowls in the middle of the table which keep getting refilled until you tell them to stop. Just think chicken wings, beans and corn and you will not go far wrong. The servers are part of the entertainment but it is noisy and is best enjoyed if you have children under teenage with you.

Part three will continue this article.
