Downtown Disney – Market Place

Downtown Disney is a great place to visit when on your holiday in Orlando.

It’s a place you can visit to pass a few hours if you arrive before your house is available for check in, during your holiday if you want to get more ‘Disney’ without going to a theme park for the day, or to while away some time if you’ve checked out of your house and its too early to go to the airport.

It’s an exciting place to go shopping because of the atmosphere. There are so many good shops to browse around and buy items…plus all Disney Merchandise. It’s open for so long you can visit both day and night. When it is night time the place is lit up, looks beautiful and an exciting place to be – even if you’re just window shopping.

We frequently enter near ‘MacDonald’s’ and look across a large lake. Here you can see the Rainforest Café, one of the restaurants which is lit up and looks good at night. There are also events and areas there for the kids. There are shows – often asking the children to go up and be part of, as well as discos, carousal, a train ride and Lego play area for young children.

Inside the shop ‘The World of Disney’ there is scenery and backdrops, which in my opinion are great to have as photo props and backdrops. You can also have your photo done by huge Lego models.

There are quite a few shops there such as ‘The World of Disney’ – a very large Disney Shop’. This sells clothes, kitchen ware, small gifts, soft toys, dressing up clothes, jewellery, bags and nightwear and much more than I can remember. Then there is ‘Disney’s Days of Christmas – Christmas shop’ – I’ve never come out of here without buying something! Every visit we buy one item to remember our holiday at Christmas time and then there’s ‘Team Mickey – Sports shop’ and this obviously sells sportswear! There are more shops than I’ve listed – shops for Winnie the Pooh and friends, Disney outfits for your dog! And many more.

We also collect Disney Pins so we always visit the Disney Pin Kiosk to choose one. When I’m back home I look at my pin collection and can remember so many wonderful days in Orlando.

In the last year a new area has opened which may appeal to young girls. Inside ‘The World of Disney’ is ‘Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique’ described as a magic salon for girls three and older.

There are three packages which are:

- The coach package which includes hairstyle and ‘shimmering’ makeup ($35 plus tax).

- The crown Package which is the same as the coach package and nails ($45 plus tax)

- The Castle package and Imaging costume which is the same as the crown package plus a complete costume and accessories of your choice (starting at $175 plus tax)B

The Imaging package also includes one 6”x 8” and four 4”x6” photos which also come in a Princess themed photo holder. You can choose from tiaras and faux hair as the accessories too! Disney recommends booking in advance. How I wish I were young enough for this but sadly I feel I am a little too old now!

There are places to eat there to such as ‘MacDonald’s’, ’Rainforest Café’ and of course ‘Ghirardelli’, an Ice-cream Parlous with delicious treats and a favourite haunt for me and my family. I love one of their enormous ice creams…. hot fudge, brownies, fruit or just huge ice cream cones to enjoy. Scrumptious! And they have a gift shop too so I can bring some chocolate home with me!

Downtown Disney’s Market Place is a great place to visit, whatever time you choose to go there. Your sure to have an enjoyable time and its jolly ambience is often enough to put a smile on your face! In my opinion it is a favourite that I – aged 13 going on 14 love visiting on every trip.
