This unspoilt place is a haven for fisherman, fresh water or salt and is considered to be one of the cleanest and , most pristine in the United States. Since there are 3. 2. million miles of river in America, that is some achievement.
You can fish from the boat ramp for those who like their fresh water fishing or go furthur down the river for salt water fish.
You are likely to catch snook, trout, red drum and bone fish. You will need a fishing license and these are available from sports shops, Walmarts (the larger ones that have a sports goods department)or on line. Also consult a ranger to find out the rules and regulations and how many fish you can take (sometimes as many as 50! )

The trails meander round for 9 miles, which take you through Palms, pine flat woods and salt marsh. From some places you will see islands and dunes on the horizon.
Pine Flats provide most of Floridas many forests and indeed they cover over half of this land. They give us timber and pulp of course but also resin, sap and cellulose which go to make cosmetics, toiletries, chewing gum and rayon. This makes the pine a vital part of the economy of Florida along with the oranges and tourists.
Pine forests came about as a result of the ice age when the flat land flooded. When the waters subsided, they left behing sand in which the pine trees flourish
Salt marshes are the eco bridge between salt water and land. In the past they were considered to be of no value ecologically, but it is now known that they are tremendously important. They protect against extremes of weather and the plants that flourish on the marshes cling on to vital nutrients
You can kayak or canoe down this river and if you have a cycle then bring it since you are allowed to ride the trails
There is a picnic area or if you forget there is food and drink available.
It is wise to bring sun screen, sun hats and insect repellant to this park and do not forget your binoculars and a camera
