Hidden Mickeys – a field guide to Walt Disneyworld’s best kept secrets.
Hidden Mickeys started out as a little bit of fun among the Disney Imagineers and artists. They decided to put a hidden Mickey on the latest rides and attractions and would challenge people (within the Disney Corporation) to find them. It wasn’t long before it went public and the book “Hidden Mickeys – a field guide to Walt Disneyworld’s best kept secrets” was published. This book explains where all the hidden Mickeys are in Disneyworld and when you find them you will ask yourself how you could have ever missed them. The book will also take you to parts of the park you didn’t know existed. It won’t exactly tell you where to look but will give you clues and tips and as it’s aimed at the younger visitors it not too difficult to work out. Here’s a clue to get you ready for your next trip, when you’re in line for the “Rock 'n' Roller Coaster staring Aerosmith” At Disney’s Hollywood Studios keep an eye down by your feet. Look out for the more unusual Mickeys made of such things as flowers, plants and cutlery/dinnerware in some of the restaurants. Believe me before long you will be addicted. We have been visiting Disney for many years and only discovered this on our last trip, its difficult writing about it without giving the game away. It’s a great source of fun and a good distraction should you find yourself waiting in line for the next thrill. You can wait and get the book at the parks but I would recommend getting it before you go and have a good read.
Another book worth its weight in gold is “a brits guide to Orlando and Walt Disneyworld”. (It’s just as valuable to our non brit readers so don’t let the title put you off). Again buy this well before you leave for your trip. This book really is unputdownable as it is jammed with facts and details to help you make the best of your time, such as which is the quietist day at a particular park and how to avoid the queues. It also covers things to do outside the parks such as “boggy creek airboat rides” where you can take a half hour continuous airboat ride, a one hour night time ride (the gators eyes are like giant ruby’s at night) a private airboat ride or a wildlife safari trip on a giant all terrain vehicle. We finished off a great day there with some fishing and a picnic on the lake. We bough our first copy of “brits guide”in 2000 but have renewed it every time it has been published as things in Disney and Florida change all the time and even us seasoned visitors want to be kept up to date.
Whatever you decide to do on your trip to Florida, prepare yourselves for an unforgettable time.
