Flying Indirectly

We normally always fly directly to Orlando.

On one trip we were quoted a really good price – so good that we could not say no. The only catch was that the flight was indirect. We would be flying into Atlanta, then catching a connecting flight down to Orlando.

I was quite apprehensive about this route and the airline had only given us 1 hour and 25 minutes to pass through immigration, pick up our bags, re check them and get to the next gate for boarding.

We were flying with Delta – another first for us. We left Gatwick full of dread; we were all convinced that we would not make the connecting flight! When we landed in Atlanta the cabin crew announced that people catching the connecting flight would need to pick up their bags at point A, and drop them off at point B. We ran to immigration, and there was no queue! Phew, that made a difference I can tell you! Picked up our bags, went through customs, and there was an army of Delta staff telling you where you had to put your bags and which gate the connecting flight was leaving from.

They were so well organised- they were brilliant. We chucked our bags onto the correct conveyor belt and then headed for the monorail to get to other terminal. So far, only 40 minutes had elapsed since landing!

We get to the other terminal; again loads of Delta staff were on hand to point us in the right direction. We ran to the gate and waited for the next flight. We actually had about 10 minutes to spare after all the worry!

Next stop Orlando! After a 30 minute connecting flight we touched down at Orlando International. It was a great feeling to be landing on a domestic flight. No long queue at immigration and no need to pick up your luggage twice. We simply got our bags and strolled over to the car shire desk.

We were all immensely relieved once we were in Orlando, but all agreed that it was no way near as stressful as we thought it was going to be. The staff were great, very helpful and they all know where we should be going to! Delta are a great airline and I would not hesitate to fly with them again.

The flight home was the same, except the Delta flight leaving Orlando was late, but the plane was help up for us in Atlanta so that we did not miss our home flight.

5 Star service!
