“Be prepared….what gadgets to take to the parks!”
If you have been reading our other “Be prepared…..” articles then you’ll now have decided what you’ll be wearing and what you will be taking. Just got to decide on the other things you might need now.
The first thing is a pen! If you arrive by car, the first thing you need to do is write down where you have parked and the trolley stop nearest. When you arrive good and early the car parks seem easy to recognise. But by the time you leave, it might be dark and there will be thousands of cars. You will not remember, especially as you might be visiting different parks each day!
The next thing is too make sure you pick up a park guide as you enter. You’ll need one each and they also make a useful souvenir. Great for reminding you about everything that you saw, you won’t remember everything otherwise, it’s just impossible! These guides also give you a lot of useful information about show times, how to reserve tables in restaurants etc., and you can use it as tick list to make sure you have visited everything in the park.
Don’t ever skip anything; you might just miss some fun!
Cameras are a great way to record the fun of the day. Small, compact cameras that can fit into your bum/fanny bag are best. Quick to use and quick to stow away! Video cameras are great but they can take up room. Also you will be fed up of carrying them after an hour or two! The modern digital cameras allow you to do a small amount of video. Generally though, still pictures seem to capture the fantasy of these parks best.
If you are going as a family and think you might be going in different directions during the day it might be wise to take mobile phones. A good alternative is to take the new compact walkie talkies that are now widely available. These allow you to remain in contact. If you don’t want to be bothered with this, just agree times and places to meet. More fun if you meet at different places during the day, here the pen comes in handy again!
Things that we would advise you not to take include food. Firstly you have to carry and secondly it will get warm. Food is generally a little more expensive in the parks, but if you select wisely you can still have good food at sensible prices. The cost only goes up when you get carried away!
Well now you should be ready to go and have fun! Just remember it’s not real but it’s wonderful! Enjoy!
