Garden Rocks Concert Series at Epcot
For the first time since 2006, we treated ourselves to Disney annual pass tickets. This article is about specific trips to Epcot, for the concerts in 2017.
Firstly, in the past 11 years, Epcot has not changed much! The Living Seas has been replaced by The Seas with Nemo & Friends which is “Finding Nemo/Dory” based and in our opinion a retrograde step; was not impressed at all! However, Turtle Talk with Crush makes up for it.
But we had come to see the concerts which are free with regular Epcot admission.
At various times of the year, Epcot hosts festivals, this was the Flower and Garden Festival. The Garden Rocks Concert Series are held in the open-air American Gardens Theatre on the far side of the World Showcase Lagoon.
If you do not fancy walking all the way around the lagoon, you can take a Friendship ferry boat from near Canada to Morocco and it is then only a short walk past Japan to America. The second ferry boat from near Mexico to Germany is not running these days. The ferry boats accommodate both wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
We watched three of the concerts. Firstly it was The Orchestra (ex-members of ELO) who performed ELO hits, they were excellent!
Next, we saw Starship; sadly disappointing, as their sound balance was completely off and the vocals were drowned by the rest of the musicians.
We also planned to watch Berlin but the heavens opened shortly before the concert started and as most of the seating is in the open air, we gave up on the idea and beat a hasty retreat.
Lastly, we saw Herman’s Hermits Featuring Peter Noone; what a performer! He was excellent, had all the audience participating and a good time was had by all! He is a real showman.
These concerts are typically about 30 to 45 minutes long, there are usually three per evening (the first one starts about 5:30) and sometimes is preceded by a cappella group.
The next set of concerts are the Eat to the Beat Concerts which are part of the Food and Wine Festival which runs from the end of August to the middle of November.
There are many artists playing, including Starship (will give them another chance! ), Kenny G, Tiffany, Hanson, Boys II Men and Squeeze. If you are there at that time it is well worth attending some of these concerts, even if you were not of that era!
